Eternal League of Nefia--Elona is a free roguelike RPG developed by Noa since 2006. It is available in both Japanese and English. Can run in Windows XP, Vista and Win 7.
*Start from designing your character, from race, class to every detail of appearance, similar to what we do in RPG maker, the player will travel in Irva, a land that is affected by Etherwind. There are many towns, cities, dungeons and vast land of wildness for players to explore, hunt monsters, harvest crops or elements, dig metal and ores, and collect rare equipment.
*Quests are posted in every town or from random encounters. They are limitless and will generate every day, ranking from simple ones to hard ones indicated by coloured stars. The character's fame will influence the difficulty of the quests generated.
*Time management is important in Elona as all quests have time limit. Time elapses 10 times faster when travelling in wildness. Many quests involve travelling to other towns.
*Termination of the character is not the end. You can pull a dead character up at the cost of loosing some of the attributes or abilities and money. You can also let the poor character be buried and delete his/her life.
GAME CONTROL:
Elona is designed for both keyboards and game pad.
Keyboard control are easy on the condition that the player understand the explanation and remember all hot keys or assign hot key to items. It becomes more difficult to laptop unless the player keeps locking the numpad and get free from holding the Fn key. Positively, the numpad of laptop will then enable the character to move diagonally.
Upper and lower cases do matter in this game and all keys are useful for different purposes under different fields--which makes assigning hot keys a bit complicated.
WEIRD but FUN
One big thing of Elona is that almost everything can be RANDOM!
*Sleep, for example, depending on what kind of bed the character lies on, the dreams could be very good or bad, and consequently, some of the attributes or potentials of the character will change. Do not be surprised if it says you collect some stone in your dream!
*Luck will influence a lot of random events, such as a crazy rich man will then give money to everyone, and your purse is filled.Or if a Pianist plays badly, the audience will throw stones to kill him.
*Dangerous world. Irva is a dangerous world. A lot of robbery, marauding or slaughtering happen when travelling. You cannot escape until entering the battle field and run to the world map again.
*Etherwind has effects on the races live in Irva. Some of them, monsters included, will become more brutal, or sick. If the character is affected, he/she will get sicker each time when Etherwind comes. Do not expect them behave themselves.
*Items of fresh fruits or meat do get ROTTEN in this crazy land. If you feed the character with rotten food, definitely you will see how effectively your character is affected.
*Some harmless-looking monsters are SS rank! Do not be cheated by a squirrel, it may have a nuclear weapon in hand!
*Want a pet? Here's one when you first enter the nearest town from your starting point. You choose from XX, XX, XX, and a GIRL! In what world a girl is a pet? And guess what? One time I was walking in a town and passing a well, there is a notice telling me my "pet" girl was killed by a TRAP!? Who set this trap here on a well!!!
*Drunkard. People get DRUNK in Irva and they will invite you for "a little fun", erotic descriptions will present how hot the relationship carries out...I am stunned when it happened between my 23 yr hero and an 80 yr shopkeeper. So when the other time, the middle-aged male weapon dealer asked the same "little fun", I am completely speachless. Blame the Etherwind or what?
*GET SALARY AND PAY TAX!! Yes, it is true. Every 1st/15th of the month, a pay check will deposit in your box, and every 1st of the month you need bring your tax form to somewhere and pay your tax. PAY YOUR TAX!
