Episode 1-26 Briefing

EP 1 "Kiru!" (斬る!)--Cut Throat
It opens with a peaceful scene of farm girl and boy sitting in the middle of green paddy fields. A sudden appearance of Nobuseri brings shadow to the smile of a farmer who checks his rice. 
The camera shifts to the battleground where airships, floating fortress, robot soldiers and samurais fight in a blood shedding world. Kambei gives his order to Shichiroji of last blow to the enemy flagship and an attempt to break through the surrounding in order to save his soldiers as many as possible...
In Kanna village (Kanna means "No gods" or "where gods left"), people are praying for water maiden Kirara to locate their new source of water for irrigation. At the village meeting, a bold decision is made: to hire Samurai who are hungry, provide them rice, ask for their protection against the upcoming marauding from the Harvesting Fortress of Nobuseri. Kirara, accompanied by Rikichi, carrying all the rice of Kanna, starts their journey to search for Samurais who are willing to wave their swords for civilians.
In the city of Kogakyo, Kirara, Komachi and Rikichi are saved by Katsushiro when a bandit robbed their rice. But Kirara says she can not see an aura of fighter in Katsushiro. They find Katsushiro again when he is trying to help a couple to save their baby in a hostage event. Kikuchiyo interferes but does not succeed in forcing the bandit to give up.
Kirara's dowsing crystal shows the Samurai to save Kanna is in the crowd (Katsushiro, Kikuchiyo, Kambei and Gorobei are found there). Kirara follows the crystal and find Kambei, who uses Kikuchiyo as a disguise and has saved the hostage baby in blink. Katsushiro, and all others, are touched by Kambei's consummate sward skills and battling strategy...
EP 2 "Kuu!" (喰う!) --Eat
Katsushiro and Kirara catch up with Kambei. Katsushiro pleads for Kambei's tutorship on his swordsmanship, and Kirara asks for Kambei's help to protect her village. Kambei refuses both and leaves. Katsushiro joins the villagers as the first "samurai".  |

Since Kirara has lost the trace of Kambei, they have no other choice but go on searching for other Samurais. Most samurais either refuse or just eat rice then leave. In Kogakyo, Kirara is spotted by Ukyo for her beauty. After meeting with the Imperial Envoy at Ayamaro's palace (Ayamaro is the Magistrate of Kogakyo where he rules it as a commercial centre of the Empire. Ukyo is his heir.), Ukyo sends his pawns to kidnap Kirara...
On the other hand, Komachi and Rikichi find Kikuchiyo and take him to their temporary residence. Katsushiro reunites with the others and finds out Kirara's absence. .

Katsushiro and Kikuchiyo have managed to find Ukyo's cart and take Kirara away from Ukyo. Kikuchiyo fights against Ukyo's bodyguards while Katsushiro takes Kirara for an escape. But the bodyguards of Ukyo easily defeat Katsuchiro and chase Kirara to a dead end.

Kirara sees Kambei walking in the street below the hathpace she stands. Kirara believes in Kambei and jumps down without hesitation...People on streets are startled by Kirara's falling. Kambei notices Kirara. He leaps on the roofs and jumps over to grab Kirara in his hand. The place where Kirara falls leads to a very deep cliffy ditch. Kambei tries his best and finally safely lands with Kirara unharmed.
EP 3 "Gojōdan o!" (ご冗談を!) --No Jest!

Kirara and Kambei rejoin Rikichi and Komachi. Katsushiro is saved by Kikuchiyo who has been fighting against Ukyo's samurais by himself. Masamune (the blacksmith) comes to Kikuchiyo to help move his cyber body that is damaged. On their way back, Katsushiro is challenged by Gorobei to an archery contest...
Ayamaro is surprised by the attck to Ukyo. He ordered to eliminate both the samurais who save Kirara and all Kanna villagers.

Katsushiro and Kikuchiyo return to the villagers and find Kambei there. Katsushiro feels upset for his weakness. Kikuchiyo is still frustrated by Kambei using him in the hostage event, and by his own way, Kikuchiyo tries to convince Kambei to join Kanna villagers. Kambei has already made up his mind when Kirara says "we believe you will come to save us". The real Samurai is now with Kirara and her village.

Kambei begins to discuss the strategy to protect Kanna. He refuses to take Katsushiro and Kikuchiyo with him to Kanna saying "What I need are Samurais"--meaning the two are not qualified Samurais in his view. He says only those survived the previous war and are real Samurai will he consider. 7 Samurais are what he needs. Kanna villagers restart their search for samurais. Masamune thus reminds them about Gorobei...
Kambei explains to Gorobei that the battle against Nobuseri is one samurai will receive no awards nor money, but only rice. Gorobei agrees to join but emphasizes he is in not for rewards but for fighting with Kambei. Suddenly, an attack from Ayamaro's men cuts into their dialogue...
EP 4 "Mairu!" (参る!) Attack

| Kyuzo goes to hunt Kambei by his own will |
Kirara sees the paddy fields are about to ripe through her crystal, and the time to find samurais is approaching its deadline. Kirara tells Katsuchiro she feels lucky to visit Kogakyo even though it is dangerous, because fear alone can not save Kanna. Katsushiro senses that they are spied by someone in the city...
On the other hand, at Masamune's place, Kyuzo appears in Gorobei's eagle watch...While Komachi complains Kambei being cold to Kikuchiyo. Masamune polishes Kambei's sword (damaged when saving Kirara) and praises Kambei's sword skills saying it shows Kambei is always ready for war...

Kyuzo follows Katsushiro to Masamune's place and faces Kambei. Samurai encounters samurai, they need no words but pull out their swords. The two has a tight fight and are impressed by the other's swordsmanship. Kambei straightly says "I want you" to Kyuzo and asks for his assistance. Kyuzo says "No!" and slashes back towards Kambei. Kambei confesses he could not win over Kyuzo but he needs to accomplish Kanna's protection before he dies. Kambei thus leaves Kyuzo with his back exposed to Kyuzo's swords...
EP 5 "Osomatsu!" (お粗末!) Show up my petty trick!
Kanna villagers read Kirara's letter informing them 7 samurais are going to protect Kanna.
Kambei and others go on looking for Samurai but most times it turns fruitless. They happen to enter a teahouse and heard a Samurai chopping firewood there in exchange for tea and food. Kambei finds the Samurai is worth of recruiting….

At Masamune’s place, a young samurai offers to chop firewood and asks for an old machine as return. Gorobei sees some stranger is chopping wood using Katana. Gorobei thus has a chat with him, and finds Heihachi a good engineering samurai and is very good at swordsmanship, too. Gorobei asks Heihachi:”Do you want to join the mission to kill over 40 Nobuseri?”…
Kambei and others return to Masamune’s, and find Heihachi is the Samurai they keep looking for. Heihachi is convinced to join Samurai 7 and gives a very impressive speech on Kanna rice…

Kikuchiyo challenges Heihachi for a dual but Heihachi says there is only respect between “Samurais”. Kikuchiyo is pretty happy being called “Samurai” and be friended with Heihachi…

Hyogo decides to hunt down Kambei after he sees the scar left on Kyuzo’s neck. Hyogo bring some Iron Bin soldiers (people sit inside and operate the bin) and start attacking Kambei and the others. Katsushiro swears to protect Kirara while others fight against the enemy samurai and robotic soldiers…Heihachi uses his mechanical traps to destroy Iron Bins and make Hyogo withdraw…
