Gosick: Gothic Lolita Detective

Please be advised this post is for informative purpose only. It is kept free of spoilers to its best except some basic introduction of the two main characters.

Gosick anime, based on a homonymous light novel written by Kazuki Sakuraba, started its airing in January 2011. It is also available on manga version.

A detective story setting in fictional Sauville (I would see it as "France") after WWI, the Gothic Lolita Heroine named Victorica de Blois is "prisoned" in the highest tower of the library at St. Marguerite Academy. Kujo Kazuya, a Japanese young man from a traditional military family line enters the Academy in Spring and is nicknamed as the "Azrael of Spring"(Haru no Shinikami). To put it simple, this is a story of a simple-minded brave "Azrael" meets a mysterious golden fairy.

Kazuya encounters with Victorica at the top floor of the library tower. Victorica uses her outstanding inferential capability and knowledge to help Kujo solve mysterious cases, one of which is her own origin. Even the local police asks Victorica for her assistance. The story develops around the cases for the cute little detective and the relationship between the two young friends from the east and the west.

Designed as a typical arrogant kawai Gothic Lolita in appearance, Victorica is equipped with a pipe, as a detective tradition inherited from Holmes. To some extend, her character design is similar to those in the Tentai Opera: Milk Holmes, but more focused on her wisdom.

Kujo, on the other hand, is totally an errand-boy, Watson, if we want to call him a better name. He admires Victorica's intelligence, while being admired by Victorica for his bravery and manhood. They are from two different worlds that might never have overlapped. The prophecy said to them that they will separate but their hearts will stay together.

Gosick anime is published by Bones through TV Tokyo in Japan. It was temporarily on hold due to the 3-11 earthquake. In total there will be 24 episodes. Streaming versions are available through Crunchyroll.

All rights of the pictures cut from Gosick video clips are reserved by the original producer/designer. Nameless claims no rights of the pictures in this post.
